Controversy Over Zipline Operator’s “Allahu Akbar” Chant During Pahalgam Terror Attack

NIA probes zipline operator Muzammil’s “Allahu Akbar” chant during Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26. Was it a natural reaction or suspicious act?

The serene valleys of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir turned into a scene of horror on April 22 when terrorists opened fire on tourists, killing at least 26 people in Anantnag district. Amid the chaos, a viral video showed a zipline operator, Muzammil, chanting “Allahu Akbar” before pushing a tourist to safety. The incident sparked massive controversy, with many questioning his intentions.

Now, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has stepped in, interrogating Muzammil to determine whether his actions were a natural reaction or a sign of involvement in the terror attack.

The Pahalgam Terror Attack: What Happened?

The Attack in Baisaran Valley

On April 22, 2024, terrorists launched a brutal attack on tourists visiting the picturesque Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam. The assailants fired indiscriminately, leaving 26 dead and several injured. The region, known for its scenic beauty, was suddenly engulfed in panic.

The Viral Video of the Zipline Operator

Amid the attack, a video surfaced showing Muzammil, a zipline operator, chanting “Allahu Akbar” before pushing a tourist, Rishi Bhatt, down the zipline. The clip went viral, with social media users divided—some calling it a natural reaction, while others suspected collusion with terrorists.

NIA’s Investigation: Was Muzammil Involved?

Initial Findings Suggest No Direct Link

According to NIA sources, Muzammil’s initial interrogation did not reveal any direct connection to the terror attack. However, his inconsistent statements about why he released the tourist during the firing raised eyebrows.

“Allahu Akbar” – A Natural Reaction or Suspicious Act?

The NIA reportedly concluded that Muzammil’s chanting of “Allahu Akbar” was a reflex action in shock, similar to how Hindus might exclaim “Hey Ram” in distress. However, the tourist, Rishi Bhatt, claimed Muzammil repeated the phrase three times, making it seem deliberate.

Public and Social Media Reactions

The video triggered heated debates online:

  • Some defended Muzammil, stating it was a panic response.

  • Others accused him of being complicit, citing the repeated chant.

Government and Security Response

PM Modi’s High-Level Meeting

Following the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an urgent meeting with:

  • Defence Minister

  • National Security Advisor (NSA)

  • Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)

  • Military Chiefs

Reports suggest PM Modi has given armed forces a free hand in deciding retaliation strategies against Pakistan-based terror groups.

Increased Security in Jammu & Kashmir

Security has been tightened across Pahalgam and Anantnag, with additional forces deployed to prevent further attacks.

Tourist Safety in Kashmir: A Growing Concern

Impact on Tourism

The attack has raised fears among tourists, potentially affecting Kashmir’s tourism industry, which had been recovering in recent years.

Measures to Ensure Safety

Authorities are now considering:

  • Enhanced security at tourist spots

  • Stricter background checks for local workers

  • Surveillance drones in sensitive areas

While the NIA’s initial probe suggests Muzammil’s “Allahu Akbar” chant was a panic reaction, doubts linger due to conflicting statements. The Pahalgam terror attack has not only caused tragic loss of life but also reignited debates on security in Kashmir and the psychological impact of such incidents on locals and tourists alike.

The government’s strong response indicates a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism, but the challenge remains in balancing security with tourism revival.
