Cyberpunk 2077 ended up on pirate sites on release day, but that’s to be expected

Cyberpunk 2077 has finally arrived on the shelves of digital and retail stores today, December 10th, after three postponements of the release date. And in parallel, the game appeared on pirate resources. However, this should not be surprising at all. The fresh project CD Projekt RED is distributed without DRM protection, which was taken advantage of by the cybercriminals.

The fact that Cyberpunk 2077 appeared on torrent trackers was reported by the CrackWatch website. Its servers, by the way, at the time of the release of the game could not withstand the load. As a result, when trying to enter the resource, a message from the administration appeared (and continues to appear). It contained a request to buy Cyberpunk 2077, if possible since CDPR did not provide its action RPG with any DRM protection.

On various pirate resources, the novelty immediately got into the list of the most popular materials by the number of downloads. Almost every available build of the game has been downloaded tens of thousands of times. However, the appearance of Cyberpunk 2077 on pirated resources did not in any way affect the successful sales of the project: the number of pre-orders for the game reached eight million copies, and on Steam it set a  record for simultaneous online among single-player games.

Cyberpunk 2077 is now available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, GeForce Now and Google Stadia. Versions of the project for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S will appear later.
