Cyberpunk 2077 Helps CD Projekt Set New Sales and Profit Records in 2020
CD Projekt has announced two preliminary figures from its upcoming annual profit and loss statement to explain how successful its 2020 and December Cyberpunk 2077 debut were.
For the full year, CD Projekt earned a record 2.14 billion zloty ($ 562 million) in consolidated sales revenue, which is more than four times higher than in 2019 and more than two and a half times – the company’s previous record of 798 million zlotys ($ 210 million ), installed in 2015 with the launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
The company also set a net profit record of PLN 1.15 billion ($ 303 million), more than three times the company’s previous profit record of PLN 342 million ($ 89.8 million), also set in 2015.
The gap between the company’s two best years looks even wider, considering that The Witcher 3 was released in May 2015. There was more than half a year left until the end of the reporting period, while Cyberpunk 2077 hit shelves on December 10 with 8 million pre-orders.
However, the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 is still difficult to call an unconditional success. The game debuted in such poor technical condition (especially on consoles) that the developer promised to refund the money to customers if they wanted it. And Sony Interactive Entertainment has removed the digital copy of Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store and has not returned it to this day.
CD Projekt’s full report on last year’s results will be released on April 22nd.
