All because of the delay in the issuance of EPTS
The Association of Russian Automobile Dealers (ROAD) sent a letter to the Ministry of Industry and Trade with a request to expedite the issuance of electronic vehicle passports (EPTS).
A copy of the letter was received by the editors of Autonews.ru, which confirms that delays in issuing EPTS have been going on for several months. And without this document, dealers cannot issue cars already paid for and delivered to showrooms to customers.
Dealers are asking for help: they cannot issue cars and incur losses
The ROAD letter says dealers are suffering financial losses as many companies buy cars to resell on credit. Delays in obtaining EPTS may also affect the payment of wages to dealership employees.
Autonews.ru sources claim that the problem is related to a hacker attack that was carried out on the system of the Federal Customs Service (FCS) in April 2023. Then the FCS said that the work is going on as usual.
Autonews.ru adds that the problem primarily affects Chinese-made cars and is spreading throughout Russia.
At the end of May, it was reported that hundreds of cars “hung up” at car dealers in St. Petersburg due to the lack of documents for them.
