Destiny 2: the Witch Queen expansion postponed to 2022

Destiny 2’s next major expansion will come later than expected – Bungie moved The Witch Queen from 2021 to early 2022. The studio also revealed that another chapter had been added to the Destiny 2 roadmap, following the Witch Queen and its subsequent expansion, Lightfall, to complete the first Destiny saga properly.

Bungie has highlighted three main reasons for the delay: The Witch Queen’s narrative ambitions, constant updates to Destiny 2’s core systems, including crossplay, and the work-from-home environment due to COVID-19. Besides, the studio has confirmed that crossplay between all platforms will appear in Season 15 this fall. PC and console players will not fight each other in Competitive Crucible matches unless they are in the same party.

Last summer, Bungie mapped out a roadmap for the years to come, including a trilogy of expansions: Beyond Light (released in 2020), The Witch Queen, and Lightfall. Plans also included getting rid of obsolete content – literally removing it from the game – to circumvent Destiny 2’s growing volume on user media.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X & S and PlayStation 5.
