Development is difficult: a Poco spokesman explained why the brand recklessly clones Redmi smartphones

The recently announced Poco C3 smartphone is the rebranded Redmi 9C, under the name Poco M2 Pro hides the Redmi Note 9 Pro, the Poco X2 is nothing but the Redmi K30 and the Poco F2 Pro is the global version of the Chinese Redmi K30 Pro. A company spokesman finally admitted why Poco has almost no own devices (the only exceptions are Poco F1 and X3).

Poco India Director Anuj Sharma explained that Poco is a young company and it is difficult for them to develop smartphones from scratch. Sharma also recalled that Poco is not the first brand to use such a strategy. According to him, the first OnePlus smartphone was a rebranded Oppo model. Realme entered the market in a similar way.

Sharma noted that Poco plans to adhere to the chosen strategy in the future. The company is not going to develop its own software platform either. Instead, it will continue to use the MIUI shell, which is also used in Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones.

In addition, the head of Poco India confirmed that the F2 Pro model will not be sold in the Indian market. In his opinion, the model does not reach the level of its predecessor, F1. “The Poco F1 was the smartphone that changed the market, and consumers expect the same from its successor. Poco F2 Pro is not the right device. We are working to create a worthy successor, but it will take time to develop it, ”Sharma stressed.
