Diabetes: How to reduce the risk of developing the disease?

How to Control diabetes – Excessive thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, blurred vision, hunger, and weight loss are the most common symptoms of diabetes, which often go unnoticed by patients. This means that a diabetic person can live for several months – or even years – with mild symptoms without being aware of the disease.

How to Prevent and control diabetes

To prevent and control diabetes, it is essential to recognize these symptoms, carry out regular screenings and adopt healthy lifestyle habits such as, for example, careful eating, weight control, and physical exercise.

With the holiday season even the door – so propitious often some excesses – meet four recommendations of the Z World of Zurich to decrease the risk of developing the disease and have a healthier lifestyle.

Adopt a healthy and varied diet. A healthy, varied, and fiber-rich diet is one of the pillars of diabetes prevention – and it is the best tool to control weight and avoid obesity problems. Try to consume fruits and vegetables daily and avoid processed or high-fat foods.

Say no to a sedentary lifestyle. The practice of regular exercise is also a determining factor for the prevention of Diabetes since physical exercise contributes to the proper functioning of the pancreas and to control glucose levels. Try, for example, taking brisk walks of 150 minutes a week (50 minutes on three alternate days). However, before starting to exercise you should ask your doctor for advice to find out which activity is best for your physical condition.

Eliminate tobacco. Smokers have a 30% to 40% higher risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes, the most common and frequent form of the disease. For that reason, tobacco must be eliminated.

Monitor health regularly. As Diabetes is a disease that sets in without giving obvious signs, it is important to have your routine health checkups and tests and to periodically monitor your blood glucose levels.

These advices are valid not only to prevent the onset of diabetes but also for those who already have the disease to keep it under control. Start today to adopt a healthy lifestyle, helping to prevent the risk of developing diabetes and other diseases as well.
