Diorama Fantasy: Final Fantasy Creator Reveals Trailers And Details For Unusual JRPG Fantasian
Japanese studio Mistwalker Corporation, founded by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, has revealed the details of its turn-based RPG Fantasian. Trailers and screenshots were also presented.

Fantasian is designed in the spirit of the classics of the genre. Sakaguchi noted that he was primarily inspired by Final Fantasy VI, on which he worked as a writer and producer. A few years ago, the game designer played the game again on the Super NES Classic, after which he had a desire to “return to his own origins.” And yet, there is something atypical about it.
First, the game features a “miniature” visual style. Based on hand-made dioramas (there are more than 150 of them), an environment is created on which three-dimensional character models are superimposed. Experienced set designers made dioramas for the Godzilla films and the anime Attack on Titan and The Ultraman. In this way, the authors tried to convey the feeling of “charm and warmth” inherent in early Final Fantasy.
Secondly, random battles don’t work the same way as in most jRPGs. Monster battles can be “postponed” by sending opponents to the alternate dimension Dimension. At any moment, the player can move there and deal with all the “accumulated” enemies at once. According to the creators, this feature will help solve the problem of annoying random battles and allow you to enjoy exploring locations without interference.
Sakaguchi himself wrote the script. The developer calls the Fantasian theme the conflict between Chaos and Order. The game’s universe consists of many intersecting dimensions, in each of which the gods are waging war for power. The main character Leo (Leo), will be involved in this struggle.
In the story, the protagonist goes to another world searching for his missing father, a researcher of dimensions. After a powerful explosion at a magic factory, Leo finds himself in an unfamiliar area. He realizes that he has only one memory left – about the girl Kina, who can return him to the human dimension. As he travels the world, he will find memories, diaries, and notes, designed in the form of mini-novels with unique illustrations, sounds, and music. Besides, he will have to unravel the mystery of the “mechanical infection,” which gradually absorbs everything known to humanity. Leo will be joined by “a couple of robots, a princess-sorceress and the captain of a luxurious airship. “
The duration of Fantasian will be 40-60 hours. Legendary Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu composes the soundtrack. He has already produced music for games at his own studio, Sakaguchi, which can be heard in Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, The Last Story, and Terra Battle.
Currently, the release of Fantasian is planned only for Apple Arcade (mac OS, iOS, and tvOS). Whether it will be a temporary exclusive is not specified, but it is possible that after some time, the game will appear on PC and consoles. The premiere is expected before the end of 2021.
The development of Fantasian became known in March 2019 when Apple revealed details of the Apple Arcade launch.
