DJI unveils Air 2S drone – a camera with a large 20-megapixel sensor and support for 5.4K video, 12 km communication and more

As expected, DJI unveiled the Air 2S, which essentially retires the old Phantom 4 Pro and Mavic 2 Pro (especially if Waypoints mode is confirmed). The device is equipped with a 1-inch 20-megapixel sensor, can record 4K video at 60 fps or 5.4K at 30 fps in 10-bit mode, can communicate at a record distance of 12 km, and detecting obstacles in four directions. And weighs only 595 grams.

The camera, which is still mounted on a 3-axis gimbal, is worth a little more detail. A 1-inch CMOS sensor with a pixel size of 2.4 microns allows you to take photos in 5472 × 3648 (3: 2) resolution in both JPEG and DNG (dynamic range 12.6 steps). The lens is fixed, with a viewing angle of 88 ° (22 mm in 35 mm equivalent), the maximum aperture value is f / 2.8, and the camera takes focus from 0.6 m to infinity. There are also various modes of burst and interval shooting, automatic panorama creation, including in the DNG format.

Video recording is supported at 5.4K (5472 × 3078) at up to 30fps, 4K (3840 × 2160) at 60fps (crop factor approximately 1.3), and Full HD (1920 × 1080) – 120 fps. You can save clips in MP4 or MOV containers in H.264 / AVC or H.265 / HEVC formats at 150 Mbps and 10 bits per channel (in Blog-M mode). 4K supports 4X digital zoom, 1080p supports 8X.

The drone is capable of flying up to 31 minutes in ideal conditions, and during this time, it will be able to fly 18.5 km at a cruising speed of 13.5 m / s. In general, in normal mode, the device flies at speeds up to 15 m / s, in sports mode – up to 19 m / s, and in tripod mode – up to 5 m / s. At the same time, Air 2S can withstand wind speeds up to 8.5-10.5 m / s.

DJI also notes various Smart Modes. For example, we are talking about the advanced intellectual function MasterShots, which allows you to create a vibrant creative video with one touch. It is enough to select the subject, and the drone will start shooting, keeping it in the center of the frame. The device will perform ten maneuvers in succession, after which it will create a short cinematic video. Spotlight 2.0 fixes the camera to the object while the operator flies in a spiral or creates a close-up. And Point of Interest 3.0 will allow you to fly around the object in a circle smoothly.

ActiveTrack 4.0 is designed to follow the subject without worrying about possible obstacles – 8 cameras continuously track the surroundings from above, below, in front, and behind. Advanced Autopilot (APAS 4.0) algorithms enable DJI Air 2S to recognize obstacles even in more challenging scenarios and at high speeds.

It is important to note that the DJI Air 2S is equipped with O3’s advanced image transmission technology (OcuSync 3.0), which delivers clear and reliable image transmission. For the first time, communication is promised at a distance of up to 12 km (up to 8 km in the European CE standard) at a resolution of 1080p. 4 built-in antennas operate at 2.4 GHz (5 GHz not).

DJI Air 2S, like the American version of DJI Air 2, provides an additional layer of airspace safety thanks to the advanced AirSense system. The system receives location information from aircraft and helicopters transmitting ADS-B signals nearby, displays them on a map, and provides audio and visual alerts in the DJI Fly app to avoid collisions.
