Don’t expect the first free DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 to be released soon

Despite all the problems and scandals, Cyberpunk 2077 sold 13 million copies in 10 days. Publisher CD Projekt is still actively fixing problems, tarnishing its reputation, and also dealing with an investor lawsuit. Therefore, it is hardly worth waiting for the imminent release of the free add-on, which was promised in early 2021.

“The free add-on will tell a new story about Night City in early 2021. We will tell you the details soon! ”, – informs the official page. It was recently discovered by players on the game’s website. It’s important to note, however, that the promise of an early release is likely out of date. As Engadget points out, the Internet Archive’s “time machine” shows that the page hit the web on the day the game was launched, before the problems started and before CD Projekt held an emergency conference on December 15 to discuss how the company should respond on what is happening.

During that conference ( transcript is available in PDF format ), CD Projekt President and Co-Executive Director Adam Kiciński told investors that it was too early to say when the company could release the first DLCs. In particular, he was asked: “How do you rate the team’s ability to offer a couple of DLCs next year and, of course, multiplayer in 2022?”  Earlier, CD Projekt has already announced that the multiplayer mode will not appear in the game in 2021.

The full answer in December was: “To be honest, it’s too early to judge. At the moment, please let us deal with the current situation, after which it will be possible to make new estimates – all this is still ahead. It’s hard to say yet – we are currently focused on improving Cyberpunk 2077. We will talk about it early next year

In the meantime, players are awaiting the release of two major patches for the game in January and February, respectively, which the company promised to present in its message of apology dated December 13. Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, GeForce Now and Google Stadia streaming services, and PS5, Xbox Series X and S in backward compatibility mode. Sooner or later, Cyberpunk 2077 should receive a number of free small DLCs and at least two large DLCs like  ” Hearts of Stone ” and ” Blood and Wine ” for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
