EA versus regional prices: Steam version of F1 2021 was almost three times more expensive than the previous part
A Twitter user under the pseudonym RobotBrush drew attention because the Steam version of F1 2021 announced yesterday was significantly more expensive in many regions than the previous part. Why this happened is easy to guess.
Recall that F1 2021 will be the first Codemasters game (both within its “formula” series and in general), not released independently: in February of this year, the British studio joined Electronic Arts.
Before Electronic Arts ‘arrival, Codemasters’ F1 franchise games were sold on Steam at affordable regional prices. For example, F1 2020 in the Valve service costs 1,085 rubles, while the rest of the series is even cheaper due to their age.
For comparison: pre-ordering the Steam version of F1 2021 (in the basic edition) will cost those who already wish 2999 rubles, which is almost three times (or 176%) more than in the case of the previous release.
The rejection of regional prices hit not only Russia: in Argentina, the new game turned out to be 454% more expensive than the previous one, in Turkey – by 357%, in South Africa – by 204%, and in Ukraine – by a “modest” 114%.
Currently, users of the listed (and not only) states are enthusiastically expressing their discontent on the Steam forums and the developers’ social networks. However, this is unlikely to change the situation.
F1 2021 will go on sale on July 16 this year for PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and S. Unlike the price, the system requirements have not changed at all since 2020.
