Electric crossovers of the Honda brand will be produced by General Motors

Honda Motor is forced to make compromises in a changing automotive market. Simultaneously with Toyota, it set a course for the creation of cars using hydrogen fuel cells, and of the “purebred” electric vehicles, it has only the Honda E, offered in Europe. GM will become a strategic partner of the company in the USA in the field of electric vehicles.

Honda partnered with General Motors to develop traction batteries a couple of years ago, and last year the partners announced plans to create a self-driving electric vehicle for GM’s Cruise Origin. Along the way, it was announced that the American carmaker will launch the production of two models of electric vehicles for Honda using its own powertrains.

Now, Automotive News explains that Honda’s debut electric vehicles in the US market will be crossovers produced by General Motors. Under the Honda brand, such a crossover will appear in 2023, its production will be established at an enterprise in Mexico, which will be redesigned for the production of electric vehicles.

A year later, a platform crossover will be released under the Acura brand, which General Motors will launch in Tennessee. The source notes that the dimensions of both electric crossovers will be comparable to the firstborn of the Cadillac brand – the Lyriq electric car (pictured above), which will enter the US market in 2022. Whether the Honda vehicles will have comparable performance is not yet specified, but Lyriq claims the ability to travel up to 500 km on a single charge. There are modifications of the crossover with both rear and all-wheel drive.
