Elon Musk admitted that he would like to teach the Tesla Roadster sports car to hover above the ground

Elon Musk admitted that he would like to teach the Tesla Roadster sports car to hover above the ground

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been repeating for several years that the second generation of the Tesla Roadster electric supercar will offer a unique option in the form of jet nozzles. They will accelerate the car with a jet of compressed air and facilitate maneuvering at high speeds. In a new interview with Joe Rogan, Musk said he is considering using these nozzles to make the car float on the ground.

“I wish she could soar. And you know, I kept thinking about how to make this thing float so that it doesn’t kill anyone. Perhaps so that she could hover a meter from the ground or something like that, even if she falls for some reason, only her suspension will break, but the person will not be hurt, ” Musk shared in Joe Rogan’s new podcast Joe Rogan Experience.

If this absolutely crazy idea is implemented in an electric sports car, which Tesla will release on sale in 2022, it is unlikely to understand by the state safety authorities, writes The Verge resource. Curiously, many of the solutions already embedded in Tesla’s electric cars were originally presented as bold ideas in the same way. Many of them have raised and continue to grow questions from regulators. For example, the last time the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) was interested was the idea mask would equip updated versions of Model S and Model X vehicles with a wheel instead of a wheel. The car was also able to automatically switch between parking, reverse, neutral, and drive modes.

Rogan himself asked Musk if he thought the steering wheel could violate the safety rules for operating cars on public roads. “Well, they’re used in Formula 1,” Musk replied. To this, Rogan said: “ Yes, but you do not use a Formula 1 car for driving on public roads. For example, I like to put one hand on top of the steering wheel freely. “

Musk replied that this is not a problem, since in most cases, the car’s electronics will do all the work for the driver. “Autopilot becomes so efficient that most of the time you don’t have to drive yourself at all. You can put your hand, for example, on your knee, “ – explained the head of Tesla.
