Media Matters believes it will win any lawsuit

Elon Musk and Company X filed a lawsuit against Media Matters, which accused the social network of allowing anti-Semitic publications.

The lawsuit alleges that Media Matters for America “manipulated” data in an attempt to “destroy” the platform formerly known as Twitter. Companies including Apple, Disney, IBM and Comcast suspended advertising on X after Media Matters published its analysis.

Media Matters said last week that ads appeared in X next to pro-Nazi posts such as Hitler quotes and Holocaust denial. In addition, Musk himself was accused last week of spreading anti-Semitic remarks on the platform.

The lawsuit alleges that Media Matters published doctored images, claiming that these are the images typical X users see: “Media Matters developed both these images and the associated media strategy to drive advertisers off the platform and destroy X Corp.”

Following the Media Matters allegations, the European Commission, Warner Bros Discovery, Paramount and Lionsgate also deprived X of advertising revenue. On Saturday, Musk vowed to file a “thermonuclear” lawsuit against Media Matters and “everyone who participated in this fraudulent attack on the company.”

In response, Media Matters President Angelo Carusone stated that they would win any lawsuit: “Musk is not at all the defender of free speech that he claims to be. “He is a bully who threatens frivolous lawsuits in an attempt to silence reports that he has even confirmed are accurate.”

Founded in 2004, Media Matters is known for its criticism of the media. Media Matters describes itself as a nonprofit “a progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing and correcting conservative disinformation in the U.S. news media.”
