The engine was fixed at an angle to the horizon
Elon Musk has released a video showing new tests of the Raptor engine. In this case, the engine is tilted at an angle of 15 degrees to the horizon and directed downward.
The video is about 20 seconds long, but in reality the test lasted about 2 minutes, and the engine passed it perfectly.
SpaceX has rarely shared footage of rocket engine testing lately. A video was shown early last year of a Raptor 2 engine combustion chamber melting during a test run in the early stages of Raptor 2 development.
Elon Musk showed an unusual test of the latest engine for Starship
The new test was unique. Most of the tests are carried out on a horizontal test stand. During this, the engine is usually parallel to the ground. Adding a tilt angle allows you to further test the strength of various components.
The Raptor engine was created specifically for Starship. SpaceX has yet to successfully launch a Starship into orbit, but the developers have already upgraded the Raptor twice. The Raptor 3 is the newest variant.
