Company denies refugees and asylum seekers in the US
The US Department of Justice has said it is suing Elon Musk’s SpaceX, alleging that his firm discriminates against refugees in its employment.
The Justice Department alleges that SpaceX falsely claimed that it was not allowed to hire individuals who are not US citizens. The US Department of Justice investigation into SpaceX was initiated following allegations of discrimination by a foreign worker.
The Justice Department said that from September 2018 to May 2022, SpaceX “routinely discouraged asylum seekers and refugees from applying and refused to hire or consider them because of their citizenship status.”

The asylum seeker has the right to work in the United States. Such people may apply for a social security card, may request permission to travel abroad, and may apply to bring family members into the country.
And SpaceX allegedly stated that it was only allowed to hire citizens and green card holders due to “export control laws.” The Department of Justice has stated that this is incorrect and that these laws do not provide for such restrictions.
The Justice Department has asked SpaceX to consider compensating those who were denied jobs due to alleged discrimination.
