Elon Musk’s Neuralink is at the center of a U.S. Department of Transportation investigation over the potentially illegal movement of dangerous pathogens.

The reason for the investigation was a letter from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and the Animal Rights Group. The authors said they received various documents that point to the unsafe packaging and handling of implants removed from monkey brains. These implants could, in theory, be carriers of infectious diseases.

In particular, the letter states that the authors have indications of the presence of pathogens in the samples, such as antibiotic-resistant staphylococcus aureus and herpes B virus, which could have been transported without proper security measures. True, this all took place back in 2019, when Neuralink relied on UC Davis to conduct its experiments on primates. This partnership ended in 2020.
