Epic Games will leave iPhone, iPad and Mac users without a new season of Fortnite

Epic Games announced that the next season of Fortnite will launch tomorrow. However, if you are using iOS or macOS devices, you will not be able to get the update. What’s more, iPhone, iPad, and Mac owners will no longer be able to play Fortnite with non-Apple OS devices.

This means that iOS and macOS device users will remain with the current version of Fortnite indefinitely and will only be able to play with each other. Apple’s legal battle with Epic Games will effectively split the popular game in two. On PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Android, players will have access to new content that is plentiful in every season.

Something like this is to be expected as the relationship between Apple and Epic Games becomes tenser and tenser. It all started with Epic releasing an update on August 13th that added a new payment mechanism to Fortnite, allowing players to make purchases without having to pay Apple’s 30% service fee. After that, Apple predictably removed Fortnite from the App Store. Epic has sued Apple, posted a parody video, and called on other companies to support the fight against the Cupertino giant.

Despite the fact that the trial is still far from the end, the court released Apple from its obligation to restore Fortnite to the App Store while the case was pending but prohibited the deletion of the accounts of Epic developers involved in creating applications for iOS and macOS. Any of these interim judgments are subject to change on September 28, the date the next hearing is scheduled.

It’s worth noting that Fortnite runs on Mac via a separate launcher, so the system could theoretically get a new season. Probably, the platform has become a victim of litigation between two companies, so an update for it will not be released, at least tomorrow.
