Yesterday, the company released Android 13 for its Fairphone 3 and Fairphone 3+ smartphones.
Fairphone 3/3+ received Android 13 and can receive updates until 2026
It’s worth starting with the fact that the first one was released in 2019, and the second one appeared a year later. That is, the first one came out with Android 9 and now officially and fully received Android 13. This is already extremely rare on the market with Android. But the situation becomes much more interesting if you know that both smartphones did not receive Android 12 last year. And it’s not at all because Fairphone didn’t want it. Then the company said that it simply cannot do this, since the Snapdragon 632 SoC at the heart of both smartphones does not have support for the new OS. Indeed, this platform was released back in 2018.
However, in the end, Qualcomm stopped supporting Snapdragon 632, which freed Fairphone, and the company was able to update its devices to Android 13.
But that’s not all. Fairphone says that the original plan to support these models until 2024 could eventually be extended for another two years! That is, Fairphone 3/3+ can eventually get Android 17! This will mean seven years of OS updates, which will be an absolute record for the market.
