Final Fantasy XIV will receive a PS5 version on April 13, Endwalker coming this year

More than 10 years after the problematic launch of Final Fantasy XIV on PC and PS3, the game will be released on another PlayStation generation. During the previously promised presentation, Square Enix announced that open beta testing of the PS5 version would begin on April 13th. On the new platform, the MMORPG will run in 4K resolution and promises significantly improved performance.

Sony PlayStation 5 is already playable in backward compatibility mode, but the new version will be fully optimized for PS5. At the same time, the developers, as reported, announced the Endwalker add-on – its launch is scheduled for this fall. Players will receive new tasks, areas to explore, and the maximum character level will be increased to 90.

The expansion will also complete the storyline that began during the restart of the project. The game has previously released many free regular updates and three major add-ons – Heavensward (2015), Stormblood (2017), and Shadowbringers (2019).

Initially, the 2010 project was so poorly received by players that Square Enix decided to close it and relaunch it under the name Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn in 2013. The latter was set in the same world, and the players were even allowed to transfer their characters. Realm Reborn was then ported to PS4 and now has more than 20 million players. Things are obviously going well, and the launch on PlayStation 5 is intended to increase MMORPGs’ popularity further.
