First images of Huawei Mate 40 published: no major design changes

Smartphones of the Huawei Mate 40 family will be presented in the fall, but there are already plenty of rumors about upcoming new products on the Web. However, until now there has been no information on how the new Chinese flagships will look like. Twitter blogger @OnLeaks has filled this gap. In collaboration with HandsetExpert.com, he presented renders of the Mate 40.

The first thing that catches your eye is the lack of “bangs” for the dual front camera. It was replaced with an oval hole in the upper left corner of the slightly curved display on the sides. A similar arrangement of the selfie module has already been used in the Huawei P40 announced at the end of March.

The rear camera of Huawei Mate 40, according to the render, will still be made in the form of a round platform on the back panel. The design will only change slightly.

According to earlier leaks, the hardware base of the Huawei Mate 40 series smartphones will be the Kirin 1020 5G processor, produced using a 5nm process technology. But it is possible that because of the US sanctions for the global version of the devices, the company will have to use single-chip MediaTek systems. Power sources for the Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro are rumored to be batteries with a capacity of 4200-4500 and 4500-5000 mAh, respectively. The former will support 40-watt fast charging, the latter 66-watt.

Like the Huawei P40, all members of the Mate 40 family will go on sale without Google services, including Google Play. Instead, Huawei is promoting its own AppGallery app store, which, as of July 2020, had 750 million active users.
