The state failed to prove that the original bill would be “constitutionally permissible”

In the USA (and not only) for some time now they have been conducting a not very active, but still extensive campaign against Tik Tok. And just the other day in Montana, for the first time in the country, a law was passed to completely ban Tik Tok. The irony is that he was immediately blocked.

First US state to ban Tik Tok, but a federal judge immediately blocked the law

Montana’s governor recently signed legislation mandating a complete ban on the popular social networking site in the state effective January 1, 2024. The governor said this legislation will advance the overall priority of protecting Montanans from Chinese Communist Party surveillance.

However, a federal judge in Montana blocked the legislation, saying Montana failed to prove that the original bill would be “constitutionally permissible.”

However, it is worth noting that the Montana Attorney General’s office said that the judge’s decision is only “preliminary at this time,” and if the state has legal justification for blocking Tik Tok, it could be reviewed.
