Foxconn confirms intention to build production in USA
Foxconn’s $ 10 billion investment in the U.S. state of Wisconsin did not create as many jobs in 2019 as needed to qualify for tax breaks. The state government announced this in October. The source notes that the company failed to meet its targets for the second year in a row, and the plant itself became a symbol of unfulfilled promises that played a key role in Trump’s election in 2016. In turn, Foxconn said that its investment plan does not depend on who is the president of the United States.
Initially, the company hoped to produce large-format TV panels at its Wisconsin facility. The company later said it would instead produce smaller LCD displays. Now the possibility of organizing the release of products related to servers, telecommunications and artificial intelligence is being considered.
Meanwhile, Foxconn’s revenue is based on consumer electronics devices, including smartphones. They brought 41% of revenue in the third quarter. In second place (28%) are products for cloud computing, in third (24%) – other computer products, including laptops.
