A WhatsApp link has been detected that instantly crashes.

Such a link should usually take the user to the WhatsApp settings menu

Users of the popular messaging app WhatsApp have discovered a new nasty glitch where the app crashes after sending a specific link. This glitch is observed in the Android version of WhatsApp, both in the consumer and business versions of the application.

The issue was first spotted by user Brute Bee on Twitter, then Android Authority picked up the news by sharing that the app would “crash” if the user was sent the “wa.me/settings” link. Such a link should normally take the user to the WhatsApp settings menu, but instead causes the app to crash.

A WhatsApp link has been detected that instantly crashes.

Fortunately, there is a solution to the problem, albeit a temporary one. If users experience this issue, one way to work around the issue is to completely delete the chat, getting rid of the problematic link. But, if this is not possible, you can access WhatsApp Web through a browser, go to the chat with the problematic link and delete it. This link does not crash when accessing the message with a browser and, once removed, allows the chat to function properly when viewed through the Android app.

This is just a temporary solution. Because if the link is sent to the chat again, you may encounter the same problem again and you will need to follow the same steps to fix it. It remains to wait until the developers finally fix the bug.
