Full version of Virtua Fighter 5 is hidden in Yakuza 6 and Like a Dragon
A modder under the pseudonym Silent (aka CookiePLMonster) discovered a full-fledged version of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown in Yakuza: Like a Dragon Yakuza 6: The Song of Life for PC.
During its existence, the Yakuza series managed to “shelter” two parts of Virtua Fighter, including the fifth. Still, until recently, it was believed that we were only talking about mini-games.
By manipulating the code, Silent was able to unlock the whole version of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown and even created a plug-in to launch a full-fledged fighting game – it is available in Sega’s in-game arcade machines.
Silent is currently working to isolate Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown from the listed Yakuza games. The first successes were not long in coming: the fighting game is already working, although so far without sound.
Virtua Fighter 5 debuted in July 2006 on arcade machines in Japan and made its way to the PS3 and Xbox 360 a year later. The 2012 Console Final Showdown edition contains additional costumes and animations for the fighters.
