Recall that in September 2019, Prince sued Gearbox Software and personally Randy Pitchford for misuse of his music in Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour.

In addition to Gearbox Software and Pitchford, Valve (for distributing the product in their store) and 3D Realms parent company Apogee Software were involved in the proceedings.

The fact is that the rights to Prince’s music are separate from the rights to the Duke Nukem series, which Apogee Software forgot about (intentionally or not) to warn Gearbox Software.

Now the conflict is settled, and Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour has received Prince’s support. 3D Realms also confirmed that the composer’s music license was true “inadvertently overlooked” in the sale of the rights to the series.

“I am grateful to Randy Pitchford and Gearbox for their engagement, collaboration and understanding. I’m also grateful that we can leave this behind and move on, ”said Prince.

Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour is a 1996 reissue of Duke Nukem 3D. The remaster was released in October 2016 on PC (Steam), PS4 and Xbox One, and in June 2020 reached the Nintendo Switch.
