We are talking about localizing production at the Belgi plant
The Belarusian authorities have set the task of increasing the level of localization of passenger car production at the Belarusian-Chinese joint venture Belgi by producing their engines and gearboxes.
“The main thing now is localization. We need to get our parts for this car. We have everything for this. Some enterprises are underutilized. Yes, it is not an easy task to produce your engine and gearbox for a passenger car. But we have set ourselves a task,” Lukashenko said.
The head of state noted that there is a motor plant in the republic: “Let it produce, let it move. We make boxes and engines for other cars. Yes, this is more delicate work, but we will do it.”
Geely cars will receive Belarusian engines and gearboxes.
At the Belgi plant, where Geely passenger cars are assembled, it is planned to build an additional body stamping workshop: “Well, why transport this body from China? We must stamp this body ourselves. We will slowly go out in our car. We bought a license from China, which means we will produce a new car. We just need a little time.”
He emphasized the need to provide Belarusians with a domestic car and also expressed confidence that in the future priority will be given to electric vehicles.
This year Belgi plans to produce more than 60 thousand cars, and in a few years, they intend to reach the production of 120 thousand cars per year.
