Genshin Impact International Launch Is Most Successful Of All Chinese Games

The South China Morning Post reported that the international launch of MiHoYo’s free-to-play action RPG Genshin Impact was the most successful of any Chinese game. The project gained 110k concurrent viewers on Twitch just hours after launch, making it more popular than Fortnite at the same time.

Analyst firm Qimai Data also reported that the project has become the second highest-grossing app on the App Store in China, behind only ByteDance’s Douyin (the Chinese equivalent of TikTok). She estimates that Genshin Impact has already raised over $ 1.84 million on Apple’s mobile platform.

In addition, MiHoYo’s game set a record for the number of international pre-registrations, with 5.3 million outside of China, while China itself had 16 million. In comparison, the studio’s previous games collectively reached over 40 million installs and $ 760 million in consumer spending.

As noted by the South China Morning Post, MiHoYo co-founder Liu Wei previously reported that the project has a budget of over $ 100 million, including development and marketing costs.

Genshin Impact was released on September 28th for PC, PlayStation 4, iOS, and Android.
