George R.R. Martin provides updates on the status of the ‘Game of Thrones’ projects amidst ongoing strikes

Amidst the ongoing strikes in Hollywood, George R.R. Martin finds himself grateful for being busy and involved in various projects.

As a member of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) since 1986, Martin has experienced multiple strikes over the years. He acknowledged the importance of the current strike, which he believes is the most significant in his lifetime. Despite the situation, he praised the unity between the writers and actors guilds.

On his website, Martin provided updates on the projects he’s been working on. The AMC series, “Dark Winds,” which he executive produces, has already completed its second season’s production and is set to return to television on July 30. However, due to the strike, none of the stars or writers will be participating in the show’s promotion.

Regarding HBO’s “House of the Dragon,” Martin confirmed that filming is still ongoing in the United Kingdom, and the second season is already halfway done. He clarified that all the scripts were finished months before the WGA strike began, and no writing has taken place since then, to the best of his knowledge.

Despite his deal with HBO being suspended, Martin remains busy with other creative endeavors. He is working on the stage play, “The Iron Throne,” which has been in development for several years. Additionally, he’s dedicating time to writing several books, including “The Winds of Winter,” part of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” fantasy series, which includes the renowned “A Game of Thrones.”

Martin expressed gratitude for staying occupied during the strike but highlighted that the strikes aren’t merely about well-known writers, producers, or showrunners. Instead, they are fighting for entry-level writers, story editors, aspiring students, actors with minimal lines, and individuals who dream of creating their own shows, similar to his aspirations in the 80s.

In essence, George R.R. Martin remains actively engaged in his creative pursuits, even during the strike, and he stands in solidarity with fellow writers, hoping for positive outcomes, especially for those seeking opportunities in the entertainment industry.
