Ghost of Tsushima Named Best Game of the Year by Japanese Developers and Industry

The magazine Weekly Famitsu held a traditional poll among 132 Japanese developers and well-known industry leaders to determine the best, according to the respondents, the outgoing year the game.

Among those contributing to the ranking are Final Fantasy VII remake producer Yoshinori Kitase, Sony indie head Shuhei Yoshida, Platinum Games co-founder Hideki Kamiya and others.

Unlike last year’s results, which totalled 30 positions, in 2020 the organizers decided to limit themselves to the top 5 most popular games among Japanese developers:

  1. Ghost of Tsushima ;
  2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons;
  3. Final Fantasy VII remake;
  4. Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin;
  5. Guys Fall Ultimate Knockout.

“We are very grateful that Ghost of Tsushima was selected as the best game of 2020 in the annual Famitsu industry vote. Thank you so much for your support this year! ” – commented on the victory at Sucker Punch Productions.

That the Japanese liked the samurai action game Sucker Punch Productions became clear shortly after the release when discs with the game suddenly began to run out in local retail stores.

Subsequently, the founder of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio Toshihiro Nagoshi suggested that a game like Ghost of Tsushima should have been created by the Japanese – it is so authentic.

In 2019, developers surveyed by Famitsu ranked Death Stranding, Dragon Quest Walk and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice as the best, and in 2018 – Marvel’s Spider-ManMonster Hunter: World and Detroit: Become Human.
