GoPro Hero 9 leaked specs: 41% bigger battery, 20MP sensor, 5K / 30p

After various leaks ( including exterior images ), we finally have the GoPro Hero 9 Black specs and confirmation that the upcoming sports camera will feature a 20MP sensor capable of capturing 5K at 30fps and support HyperSmooth 3.0 stabilization. The latest leak also reveals GoPro’s eco-friendly packaging.

The new GoPro will be equipped with a sensor capable of capturing 20-megapixel photos and 5K video at up to 30 frames per second. Also, the camera will be able to record video in slow motion with a frequency of up to 240 frames (8x slow motion up to 30 frames / s). Hero 9 will receive voice control and water resistance to a depth of 10 meters. GoPro Hero 9 promises improved software stabilization technology HyperSmooth 3.0, which promises smoother shooting than previous GoPro cameras. Also, GoPro Hero 9 will be able to take photos in RAW and HDR formats.

As you already know, Hero 9 Black, in addition to the standard rear touchscreen, will receive a new front display for easy framing and recording of vlogs. GoPro will also be able to offer the improved TimeWarp 3.0 time-lapse mode and will support working as a webcam right out of the box. Also, the camera will be able to broadcast live in 1080p resolution.

GoPro Hero 9 Black will be equipped with a 1720 mAh battery, which means that the charging capacity will increase by almost 41% compared to the 1220 mAh of the GoPro Hero 8 Black. Hopefully, this will also mean increased battery life, but it is quite possible that the expanded capacity will go to new software functions and information processing from a 20-megapixel sensor. To charge the batteries, you can buy an additional charger, which is rumored to have a fast-charging function.

According to the leaks, GoPro has gotten rid of the usual cardboard-plastic boxes that were used to display cameras in the store. The new packaging for the GoPro Hero 9 looks like a hard case that doubles as a package and storage space for the camera. Obviously GoPro is cutting back on excessive packaging.
