Greetings from the past: a working build of the canceled remake of the first Tomb Raider for PSP hit the web

A working build of Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition has been published on the website of the Internet archive – the never-released remake of the original Tomb Raider by the British studio Core Design.

As the name suggests, the release of Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition was supposed to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the series (2006), while the remake itself was intended for the PlayStation Portable.

Despite the project’s proximity to readiness, the development of Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition was cancelled for the sake of another remake, but already more successful – Tomb Raider Anniversary (2007) from Crystal Dynamics.

Now, 14 years later, fans have the opportunity to play the alpha version of Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition. To run, in addition to the files, you will need a special patch, Visual Studio, and a compatible controller (for PS4 or Xbox 360).

There are no enemies in the published assembly of Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition – Lara Croft can only explore (run, jump, swim) the available locations, among which there are levels in Greece, Peru and the Croft family mansion.

Shortly after the cancellation of Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition, the Core Design team took up the Indiana Jones game, based on the work of an unrealized remake. This project did not live up to release either – the studio closed its doors in 2010.

During its existence, Core Design has developed several major parts of Tomb Raider, the most recent of which was Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness (2003). From then until 2015, the aforementioned Crystal Dynamics was engaged in the series.
