The resolution on the annual celebration of Radio Day on May 7 was issued by the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR in May 1945
Today, Russia and some other countries celebrate the professional holiday of workers in all sectors of communications, radio engineering, and radio journalism – Radio Day.
Happy Radio Day!
On this day 125 years ago, the Russian physicist Alexander Stepanovich Popov for the first time demonstrated the operation of a radio receiver – a device capable of responding to electromagnetic waves, that is, opening up the possibility of wireless transmission of information. Paying tribute to our compatriot, it will be fair to remember that the birth of radio communication technology is connected with the names of other scientists, especially Heinrich Hertz, who proved the existence of electromagnetic waves themselves.
Radio communications and broadcasting have developed rapidly. The effect of their appearance in some sense can be compared with the advent of the Internet in our time. A huge role – both technical and cultural – advanced technologies played in the young Soviet Union. It is no accident that the invention of the radio was regularly noted even before the Great Patriotic War, and after the decision of the USSR Council of People’s Commissars in May 1945, the holiday became an annual event.
The transmission of information by radio has become the basis of so many technologies that we use every second that it is impossible even to simply list them all. These are radio communications and broadcasting, radar and television, navigation and accurate measurements, cellular and local wireless networks. Radio waves are used by PC peripherals and wearable electronic devices, medical devices, and virtual reality headsets.
We can say that Radio Day is no longer just a professional holiday. But, of course, congratulations and wishes on this day, first of all, are addressed to teachers and students of specialized educational institutions, scientists and designers, engineers and technicians, other specialists – all who connected fate with this important and interesting industry. Happy holidays, dear friends!
