Microsoft has written another known problem in the specification sheet for Windows 11: Colors are not always output correctly on some displays when HDR is active. These problems are triggered by various image processing programs or their libraries and runtime environments that run in the background.
Win32 APIs cause HDR problems
As the Deskmodder website first noticed, a new post has been added to the documentation on Known Issues in Windows 11 that describes in more detail the color rendering issues that can occur on some displays with HDR enabled when using Win32 APIs to render Colors are used. Until then, users who notice HDR problems in certain graphics applications should fall back on Windows’ own color management.

All versions of Windows 11 21H2 are affected, i.e. the entire build 22 **** and its Insider Previews. Microsoft expects the problem to be resolved by or with the release of the optional C update, which is expected in late January. The problem is currently in the “Investigate” status.
Windows 11 is currently receiving very intensive product maintenance, most recently the cumulative update KB5007262 raised Windows 11 to build 22000.346 and fixed numerous problems, while KB5008215 took care of further security updates.
