High demand for laptops will continue until the middle of next year

High demand for laptops will continue until the middle of next year

This summer, manufacturers of laptops and components for them looked with apprehension into the second half of the year, expecting the negative impact of the pandemic on the macroeconomic situation. The safety margin of the global economy turned out to be sufficient, and the autumn wave of the pandemic again forces market participants to talk about a consistently high demand for laptops.

Lenovo also spoke about the “new normality” in its presentation and called the last quarter “perfect”. If the revenue of the manufacturer of personal computers and smart devices grew by a moderate 7.6% year-on-year, breaking a historical record, then the profit margin reached a record 6.3% for the market.

Progress in some areas of the PC segment has been even more impressive. Gaming systems increased revenue by 57.6%, thin and light laptops – by 48.7%, and mobile computers running Google Chrome OS did bring Lenovo 2.25 times more money than a year earlier. The demand for Chromebooks was driven by the need to equip students with personal distance learning devices. As noted by the site DigiTimes, stable demand for laptops will remain until the middle of next year, based on market forecasts. Lenovo, for example, has no doubt that laptop demand will be stable until the end of March next year. The current quarter should be better than the previous one, according to company representatives. The whole next year, according to them, will increase the capacity of the PC market by another 5-10%, at least. The lack of components, especially LCD panels and power electronics, is currently hampering meeting all the demand for laptops.
