Hitman 3 and Control Coming to Nintendo Switch … as Streaming Games

Nintendo hosted a new Direct Mini: Partner Showcase that showed how the cloud can help graphically demanding third-party games run on the humble Switch hybrid console.

Specifically, the Japanese company announced that Control: Ultimate Edition will be available on Switch from today, with Hitman 3 coming later. Nintendo has marked both games as cloud-based, which means they’ll run on remote servers, rather than locally like standard Switch projects.

Of course, this means that to run these games, you will need a very high-quality, fast, and reliable Internet connection. However, before buying, Nintendo suggests testing Control so that the consumer is not left with a game that cannot be launched on his connection.

If these cloud-based versions of popular titles are successful, it could give Nintendo a new path for new third-party games to hit the Switch. Many developers are now turning their attention to the upcoming PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The Switch cannot compete in performance even with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, let alone their successors. But cloud computing could give studios the ability to run their high-end games on Switch.

By the way, in Japan, where high-speed Internet connections are widespread throughout the country, Nintendo has already used the cloud to launch Resident Evil 7 and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on Switch.
