In the process of testing DxOMark, the novelty scored 122 points, which allowed it to take only 57th place in the ranking. Significantly yielding not only to flagships, but also to competitors in the same price category (about $600), losing, for example, to the much more “age” Google Pixel 6 ($599 at the start of sales in October 2021) and sharing the 57th place in the rating with Google Pixel 6a ($459 at launch in July 2022).

The reviewers noted that the Honor 90 delivered an overall strong performance, with some of the best results for photo exposure and autofocus we’ve seen on a device in the high-end segment. The reviewers especially liked the Honor macro mode, which allowed the photographer to get closer to the subject and capture everything in great detail. Most devices in the high-end segment come with less efficient macro modes.

On the other hand, according to DxOMark, the compromise between detail preservation and noise reduction could be better. Testers found that the Honor 90 often suffered from loss of texture detail, especially in low light. In addition, they noticed a strong loss of quality when using the telezoom, since the device does not have a special telephoto lens.

Performance in video mode was similar to still mode, with equally good exposure and vibrant colors in daylight and indoors. The experts also observed the same loss of detail in low light conditions as in static images. That being said, the Honor 90 generally performed well for its class and is seen as a good option for shooting scenes without too much movement in good light, such as portrait shots of friends and family members.
