Honor updates MagicBook 14 and 15 laptops with 7nm Ryzen 5 4500U processors

On September 15, unless the ban of the administration of US President Donald Trump is lifted, the supply of any American product to Huawei and its subsidiaries will cease. But Honor has apparently stocked up on enough AMD processors to update their MagicBooks.

Let’s remind: MagicBook 14 and MagicBook 15 were presented only in February this year. They were based on the previous generation AMD Ryzen 5 3500U APUs, which were manufactured at 14nm standards. The new MagicBook 14 and MagicBook 15 have a much more interesting 7nm Ryzen 5 4500U processor.

The amount of DDR4 RAM remains the same – 8 GB. The PCIe NVMe SSD is available in 512GB. Both laptops have quality IPS displays with a resolution of 1920 × 1080, 250 nits brightness, anti-reflective coating, no PWM, and low UV radiation.

The metal cases remain the same, so the covers for older models will work with new ones as well. It uses efficient active cooling with thin and quiet Shark Fin 2.0 fans. Data protection is ensured with the help of a fingerprint sensor and a special chip, a 1-megapixel webcam is built into the keyboard and can be pulled out by mechanical pressing, there are a built-in dual microphone and high-quality Nahimic Audio sound. Available wireless adapters Wi-Fi 802.11ac 2 × 2 MIMO and Bluetooth 5.0.

The MagicBook 15 is 16.9mm thin, weighs 1.54kg, and has a display bezel just 5.3mm. At the same time, there is one USB-C connector (with the ability to power external devices and connect displays), USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, USB-A 2.0, HDMI, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The 42 Wh battery provides 6.6 hours of work in office tasks, 7.4 hours of video viewing, and 6 hours of web surfing. In 30 minutes, the device charges up to 53% using a new compact and versatile 65-watt USB-C charger (it can also be used to charge modern smartphones).

The MagicBook 14 is even thinner at just 15.9mm with a weight of 1.38kg and 4.8mm bezels around the display. Interestingly, the laptop can unfold almost 180 degrees – this is convenient when working with an external monitor. Despite the small size, all connectors are also available here: one USB-C port (with the ability to power external devices and connect displays), USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, USB-A 2.0, HDMI, and 3.5 mm for headphones … The 56 Wh battery provides 10 hours of work in office tasks, 10.5 hours of video viewing, and 8.5 hours of web surfing. In 30 minutes the device charges up to 46%. This compact model has a backlit keyboard.

Laptops are equipped with Windows 10 Home but are designed to work in conjunction with modern smartphones Huawei and Honor using special pre-installed software. In particular, the smartphone screen can be displayed on a PC, then control the smartphone, make voice and video calls from the laptop (using microphones and a PC camera), interact with smartphone applications and files, and easily transfer files between the laptop and the smartphone.

The updated Honor MagicBook laptops in space gray will be available for pre-order in the official online store from September 4: MagicBook 14 and MagicBook 15 in 8/512 GB configuration will cost 59,990 rubles. For making a purchase before the laptops are fully released to the market on the 18th, buyers will receive a smartwatch Honor MagicWatch 2 for free, as well as an additional discount, subject to a subscription on the website.
