Huawei wants to use full-screen fingerprint scanner and sub-screen selfie camera in smartphones

Not so long ago, we reported that Huawei is patenting a technology that will allow the entire display surface area of smartphones to be used for fingerprint scanning. As it has now become known, the Chinese telecommunications giant does not intend to stop there.

Android Authority reports that Huawei expects to combine full-screen fingerprint scanner technology with a sub-screen selfie camera. This will lead to a new generation of smartphones with a completely frameless design and additional control functions.

In particular, as mentioned earlier, a full-screen fingerprint scanner will allow users to be identified directly at the moment they touch the application icon or menu item. In turn, the front camera hidden behind the display can be used for additional biometric identity verification by face.

The problem is that such a design will require a large number of sub-screen sensors, which will lead to an increase in the cost of devices. Huawei, however, is already working on reducing the cost of an array of fingerprint sensors.

As of when smartphones with a full-screen fingerprint scanner and a sub-screen camera may appear on the commercial market, nothing has yet been reported.
