Huawei took its first steps in this direction on January 24th. The company announced the development of new features for smartwatches and fitness bracelets. They will allow you to determine body temperature, measure blood pressure and detect coronary heart disease. The date of adding the options to the devices has not been specified, but, presumably, they may appear already in the upcoming Watch Series 3 and Watch GT Series, 3 models.

The publication notes that this initiative could help Huawei catch up with rival Xiaomi in the wearable electronics sector. The latter ranks second, behind only Apple.

Canalys analyst Jason Low noted that electronics could help fight various diseases, but he says it requires a lot of research investment. Besides, cooperation between companies dealing with similar technologies is required.

Huawei founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei said the company spends about $ 20 billion annually on related research and development, but only 40% of the investment is returned as revenue. He stressed that the company needs to keep developing and focusing on profit to survive.

According to IDC, the global wearable electronics market reached 125 million devices in the third quarter of 2020. This is 35.1% more than a year earlier. The top three are Apple (41.4 million), Xiaomi (17 million), and Huawei (13.7 million).
