And the US can’t do anything about it

If the United States banned TSMC and other companies from the SoC manufacturer for Huawei, then Huawei will take care of their inlet. According to a source with reference to the Financial Times, the company is going to build a plant for the production of single-chip systems in Shanghai. The fundamental point is that the enterprise will not use American technologies and American equipment.

Huawei will produce processors on its own

According to people familiar with the project, production will begin with 45-nanometer single-chip systems – this is the technology behind the Apple A4 platform used in the iPhone 4. It was 10 years ago.

It may seem that the idea of creating an entire factory for the production of platforms using such an old technology does not make sense, but this is not so: the enterprise primarily plans to produce SoCs for telecommunications, network equipment and IoT equipment, where the requirements for products are not at all the same like smartphones and tablets. Moreover, production will be rapidly transforming: by the end of 2021, it is planned to master the 28 nm standards for the production of chips for IoT devices, and a year later the 20 nm technological process standards will be mastered.

Huawei does not have its own experience in manufacturing single-chip platforms, so the factory will be operated by another company – Shanghai Integrated Circuit Research and Development Center Co., Ltd. (ICRD). The Shanghai Municipal Government will also participate in the project. And although its own chip production does not solve Huawei’s main problem with the shortage of single-chip systems for smartphones, it will in itself become a great help in the face of increasing sanctions pressure from the United States.
