Huawei will use MediaTek Dimensity 5G processors in smartphones instead of its
Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei, under the yoke of US sanctions, intends to launch smartphones with 5G MediaTek processors. Such information was disseminated by knowledgeable Internet sources from the Middle Kingdom.
The United States, we recall, introduced rules in May prohibiting foreign companies from supplying components to Huawei if they were produced using American hardware or software. Because of this, on September 15, Taiwanese TSMC was forced to stop releasing Huawei HiSilicon Kirin chips for flagship smartphones.
However, Huawei allegedly managed to reserve a large number of MediaTek Dimensity chips with integrated 5G modems before that date. These processors will be used in Huawei smartphones, which are expected to be released in the foreseeable future.
The major deal between Huawei and MediaTek is indirectly indicated by the financial results of the latter. In the third quarter of this year, MediaTek’s revenue reached 97.275 billion New Taiwan dollars (approximately $ 3.3 billion), surging 44.7% year on year. Net income jumped 93.7% at all, amounting to NT $ 13.367 billion (about $ 467 million).
Thus, observers conclude that Huawei will be provided with 5G processors for smartphones for some time, which can become at least some kind of alternative to Kirin chips.
