Hyundai Motor buys renowned robot dog and humanoid robot developer Boston Dynamics for $ 921 million
Hyundai Motor will finance about half of the acquisition cost, with the remainder being paid by the company’s divisions. These include, for example, the auto parts manufacturer Hyundai Mobis. The acquisition will be the largest deal for Chung Euisun, the company’s chairman of the board of directors who took office last October. Hyundai considers robotics to be one of the most promising areas alongside electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
Boston Dynamics is famous for its spectacular developments, the most famous of which are the Spot robot dog and Atlas humanoid robot. Boston Dynamics also has a robot bird. As for Hyundai itself, it is also engaged in the development of robots but wheeled, purely for industrial purposes – at its factories.
