Now they believe that global spending on information technology will be reduced by 5.1% compared to 2019.
IDC analysts once again adjusted their forecast for global spending on information technology (IT) this year. Back in April, they believed that these costs compared with 2019 will be reduced by 2.7%, but now they bring a value of 5.1%. If the forecast is true, global IT spending this year will be 2.25 trillion dollars. The reason for the reduction in costs is the negative impact on the global economy of the COVID-19 pandemic.
IDC Analysts Reduce IT Cost Forecast Again
Looking at the situation by segment, analysts expect that spending on devices, including PCs and smartphones, will be significantly reduced. Update cycles will be disrupted, and the impetus that was supposed to give the mobile industry the introduction of 5G networks will be blurred. The costs of software and IT services will also decrease. On the other hand, infrastructure costs will even increase slightly, as providers experience an increase in demand for cloud services. In numerical terms, the forecast looks like this: spending on devices will be reduced by 12.4%, on services – by 2.6%, on software – by 1.9%, and infrastructure costs will grow by 3.8%.
