IHG Hotels & Resorts, a world leader in the hospitality industry, is making a major splash in Vietnam. The company is strategically expanding its presence by introducing two exciting new brands – Hotel Indigo and Vignette Collection – to the Vietnamese market in 2024. This move underscores IHG’s commitment to catering to the growing demand for unique and upscale hotel experiences in Vietnam, a country experiencing a tourism boom.
IHG Unveils Hotel Indigo and Vignette Collection in Vietnam
Hotel Indigo – A Celebration of Local Culture
The first to arrive on the scene is Hotel Indigo, IHG’s fastest-growing lifestyle brand. Slated to open soon in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, Hotel Indigo Saigon The City promises an immersive experience that captures the essence of its vibrant neighborhood. Guests can expect the hotel’s stunning property and grounds to reflect the sights, sounds, and flavors of Ho Chi Minh City, creating a truly authentic Vietnamese experience.
Vignette Collection – Luxury Defined by Local Character
Following closely behind is Vignette Collection, IHG’s luxury and lifestyle brand renowned for its one-of-a-kind stays. The brand will make its Vietnamese debut with a hotel situated near the famous UNESCO Heritage Site in Hoi An, an ancient town on Vietnam’s central coast. This upcoming property promises to embody the unique charm and rich history of Hoi An, offering guests a luxurious escape steeped in local character.
IHG Responds to Vietnam’s Soaring Tourism Industry
IHG’s decision to introduce these two new brands is a strategic response to Vietnam’s burgeoning tourism industry. Domestic travel within the country has skyrocketed, with over 108 million trips recorded in 2023. The Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City flight route remains one of the busiest in the world, reflecting the strong domestic travel market.
International tourism is also flourishing, with Vietnam proving particularly popular with visitors from the US, South Korea, and China. International arrivals are on track to reach a record-breaking 18 million in 2024, exceeding pre-pandemic levels. The first quarter of 2024 alone saw a remarkable 4.6 million international arrivals.
A Positive Outlook Fuels IHG’s Growth Strategy
“Following the successful launch of voco hotels in Danang last year, we are thrilled to introduce even more exceptional IHG brands to Vietnam in 2024,” says Paul Cunningham, Senior Director of Operations for Southeast Asia and Korea at IHG. “This includes Hotel Indigo, our fastest-growing lifestyle brand, in Ho Chi Minh City, and Vignette Collection, bringing its unique hospitality experience to the UNESCO Heritage Site of Hoi An.”
Cunningham goes on to highlight, “With the introduction of these two brands, our Vietnamese portfolio expands to eight IHG brands, offering diverse stay experiences to cater to every type of traveler.”
IHG’s optimism regarding Vietnam’s tourism sector is fueled by several positive indicators. Domestic travel remains strong, and international demand continues to rise, particularly within Asia. The expanding middle class and growing GDPs across Asian countries are key drivers of this trend. Additionally, new flight routes connecting Vietnam with major cities like New Delhi, Manila, Sydney, and Munich are expected to further fuel tourism growth.
IHG Continues to Expand its Portfolio Across Vietnam
Beyond introducing Hotel Indigo and Vignette Collection, IHG is actively expanding its presence across various destinations in Vietnam.
- InterContinental Halong Bay Resort: Scheduled to open in 2025, this will be IHG’s first property in Ha Long Bay, a breathtaking natural wonder. The InterContinental Halong Bay Resort promises to be a luxurious haven overlooking the iconic bay.
- Holiday Inn Resort Halong Bay: Following on the heels of the InterContinental in 2026, Holiday Inn Resort Halong Bay will cater to families and budget-conscious travelers seeking a fun-filled getaway in this picturesque location.
- InterContinental Thanh Xuan Valley: This ambitious project represents IHG’s first foray into valley resorts in Vietnam. Nestled within the Thanh Xuan Valley near Vinh Phuc, the InterContinental Thanh Xuan Valley is slated to open within the next few years and promises a unique resort experience amidst stunning natural beauty.
Positioned for Continued Growth
“With 18 hotels currently operational and a pipeline of 26 additional properties, we see immense potential for growth in Vietnam,” says Cunningham. “Entering new destinations like Ha Long Bay, Hoi An, and Vinh Phuc signifies our commitment to exploring exciting opportunities across the country.”
