In April, Huawei will release HarmonyOS as a regular update to its old and new smartphones

In mid-2019, Huawei announced the development of its own HarmonyOS operating system as an alternative to Android. This move follows the decision of the US authorities, which led Huawei to disconnect from Google services. In April, Huawei will begin rolling out its operating system to old and new smartphones.

harmony will begin to be distributed as a familiar update installed by standard means on any supported Huawei smartphone in April this year. A Huawei spokesman for CNBC confirmed this information. One of the first devices to come preloaded with HarmonyOS will be the Huawei Mate X2 foldable smartphone unveiled yesterday. It is known that HarmonyOS will have native support for Android applications, so owners of the company’s smartphones should not be faced with a lack of popular applications.

Speaking of features, the operating system will have deep integration with Huawei Media Services (HMS) – the company’s services, which include various applications (browser, AppGallery, and others) and developer tools. In fact, HMS is analogous to Google Play services.

The company currently claims that HMS has over 2 million registered developers worldwide who publish apps on the AppGallery store. However, they certainly won’t have apps from major American developers like Facebook and Google.
