If you feel that you are losing, change the rules during the game.
The U.S. Department of Commerce will soon sign a new legal regulation that will allow US companies to collaborate with Chinese company Huawei Technologies, setting standards for 5G networks. This was reported in an exclusive publication by Reuters, referring to “people familiar with the issue.”
In the United States, they are preparing a norm that will allow US companies in conjunction with Huawei to develop 5G networks
US technology companies had to stop collaborating with Huawei in this area after the ministry blacklisted the Chinese company last year. Under these conditions, American companies did not know what information their employees could share with Huawei, the world’s largest manufacturer of telecommunications equipment, and which did not.
According to industry and government officials, this put the United States at a disadvantage. At standards development meetings where protocols and technical specifications are being developed that allow the equipment of different companies to work seamlessly together, Huawei received a stronger voice, as American experts were silent.
The new rule is designed to solve this problem. According to informants, in fact, it allows American companies to actively participate in the work of standardization bodies, of which Huawei is also a member. How soon the norm will take effect is not yet clear. However, it is expected that it will concern only Huawei, but not other Chinese companies from the blacklist, such as Hikvision, a company that produces surveillance cameras.
