Washington, D.C., police are the second in the country to give out free Apple AirTags and similar gadgets to Android users to combat a surge in car thefts.
The Metropolitan Police Department has distributed free AirTags and tracking devices to residents, especially in eastern Washington, where most of the hijackings have been reported. According to MPD data, the city recorded 866 carjackings, of which 637 involved a firearm. 144 arrests were made, 65% of which were minors.
