Intel 200-series chipsets will retire in a year
In the face of declining demand for desktop PCs, motherboard manufacturers are keen to see new chipsets released as often as possible. At the same time, Intel is forced to clear space on the conveyor from obsolete products, so the chipsets of previous generations periodically leave it. Now it’s the Intel 200 series chipsets.
This week, Intel issued a notice stating that it will stop accepting orders for the Z270, H270, B250, Q250, and Q270 chipsets from May 21, 2021, and will ship the last batch on November 5, 2021. Thus, the listed Intel chipsets remain in the company’s production program for just over a year.
These chipsets were introduced in early 2017 to work with the LGA 1151 Kaby Lake processors. These chipsets were manufactured using 22nm technology and provided support for PCI Express 3.0. The TDP level of the chipset did not exceed 6 W for the entire series. The reason for the termination of the supply of these chipsets is traditionally attributed to a shift in demand towards other Intel products.
