Intel Alder Lake-S Workstation Processors Not Coming Until Q3 2021

Intel Alder Lake-S processors will likely hit the market much earlier than expected. Network sources shared a photo of an Intel event showing a roadmap explaining its upcoming plans for workstation processors. And while we’re not talking about game client processors, their release dates are unlikely to be very different.

According to this information, Alder Lake-S chips for entry-level workstations are expected by the end of the third quarter of 2021. The image also confirms that the production of processor models with a configuration of 8 large high-performance and 8 small energy-efficient cores will begin in the 35th week of 2021. It also states that the Alder Lake-S model with six large cores, which do not have energy-efficient cores, will go into production at 41 weeks.

The leak confirms that the next-generation processors will work with the Intel W680 chipset. It will be used in the base of motherboards designed for workstations. In the consumer segment, motherboards based on other 600-series chipsets will be available, including the H610, B660, and Z690. Alder Lake-S chips will offer up to 16 physical cores and be available in models with a declared power dissipation (TDP) of 35 to 125 watts. It is also confirmed that the new series of processors will use the new LGA 1700 processor socket, and the platform will offer support for 20 PCIe lanes.

Apparently, the Intel event that showed this roadmap took place last year. This is hinted at by some outdated information, indicating the manufacturer’s original plans to release 11th generation desktop Core processors back in 2020. As you know, these processors were delayed and were presented only at the end of last month of this year. Perhaps this fact can affect the plans for the launch of new Alder Lake-S processors.
